What to expect when you attend

Initial consultation

The emphasis for this consultation is to gather relevant information, and to make a thorough assessment of your problem; should we feel that treatment is likely to be of benefit to you a follow-up session will be scheduled as soon as possible.

Patient Interview

A full case history will be taken by the consultant practitioner: you will be asked details about your problem, general medical history, current medication, information regarding illness and trauma, and work, diet and lifestyle details. Other relevant questions may also be asked by the Practitioner

Patient Examination

You will be asked to undress sufficiently to enable the consultant to visually examine your muscle tone, posture, body balance, and movement ,so that they may note relevant details. Next you will be asked to lie down on a padded couch so that the practitioner may gently palpate and sense any areas of abnormal function, or tension in your body including the problem area. The consultant practitioner may ask further questions as they palpate the problem areas, and will work gently to assess the extent and underlying cause of disturbance and how best to treat it.

Treatment Advice

Following your examination the consultant practitioner will verbally advise you whether they feel that the cranio-sacral approach to treatment will be helpful for your problem, what might be the cause of your problem, when your next session should be scheduled, and if possible will try to indicate what the prognosis for your problem is likely to be. Advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle may also be given where necessary as this forms an integral part of overall care.
